What makes them unique
On the Uruguay River, facing Brazil, the riverbed has a fault parallel to the current. So the falls run along the channel instead of across it, as almost every other waterfall does.
They lie inside a protected area surrounded by rainforest, with trails and viewpoints. Boat rides can be booked on site.
Before you go: the river level
The falls are only visible when the Uruguay River is at its normal level. When it rises a lot, the fault is covered by water. We check the river before leaving and let you know.
It's the longest trip: the drive along the rainforest roads takes several hours each way, so we leave very early.
