What you visit
Visits start at the Itaipu reception centre on the Brazilian side. There are bus tours around the dam's viewpoints and longer options that go inside the structure; you choose when you buy your ticket.
It's a change from jungle and waterfalls: the sheer size is impressive, and so is seeing how it powers two countries.

It's a half-day trip. Combine it with the Brazilian Falls or with shopping in Ciudad del Este, just across the Friendship Bridge.
